Motivation Monday!

 Motivation Monday!

Happy Memorial Day!!!!!!  It’s Motivation Monday!

What is your motivation for getting healthy? My motivations span a wide range, from silly little things to some pretty big stuff. Here’s a list, in no particular order, of some of my motivations to exercise and eat healthily:

  • To look super cute in my summer clothes
  • To take preventative action against the diabetes and heart disease that’s rampant in my family
  • To have more energy and focus
  • To get rid of brain fog
  • To get toned abs, arms, and legs
  • To have healthy lifestyle habits I can pass on to my children
  • To have increased confidence and comfort in the body God’s given me
  • To learn self-discipline
  • To have improved moods and attitudes
  • To wear be able to wear those pants again that are a bit too tight
  • To have victory over self-image issues I’ve had my whole life
  • To be stronger and have more physical endurance

All of these are really good motivations, and good reasons to get fit. But honestly, there are some days where absolutely none of them cut it. Some days, the present reality of delicious looking ice cream is a whole lot more appealing than the future possibility of getting diabetes. Some days, the cupcake seems worth the brain fog. Some days, watching Netflix instead of doing my work-out is way more motivational to me than looking good this summer.

So how do we motivate ourselves when all our best motivations fall short?

I’m starting to learn that on days like that, my motivation doesn’t work if I’m doing it for myself. You see, I don’t really want to do what’s best for myself a lot of the time. Maybe this is because I have no real understanding of how truly valuable I am.

The only motivation that works for me on days like that is to do it for God. When we are tempted to compromise our healthy eating or our exercise, it’s usually because deep down we don’t feel valuable enough to be worth the effort. So when that happens, I have to look to God. Because He’s infinitely valuable, and He’s worth the effort. He deserves my self-discipline, even if I don’t feel like I’m worth it.

When I switch my motivation from trying to do something for myself to doing something to honor God, it frees me from a huge weight. It makes me realize that He cares about my health and fitness infinitely more than I do. It also lifts my perspective, helping me see myself the way God sees me. Instead of feeling like I’m not really worth all this work and discipline and discomfort, I remember that I have a divine destiny. God made me in His image and put me on this earth to do something for His glory that only I can do. He has given me skills, gifts, and resources that are uniquely mine, and He desires to do something greater than I can imagine in and through me.

I love this! When our motivation becomes honoring God, He steps in and helps us honor ourselves. He reminds us that He loves us and that we are precious and valuable to Him. It also takes the pressure off when I realize that this fitness journey isn’t about me as much as I think it is. It’s really about Jesus. It’s about Jesus making me more like Himself to shine His light to the world.

Now I’m not saying it’s bad to have those motivations I listed at the beginning. Those are all great things. But they will all fail eventually if they’re my only motivations because they’re all based around me and my own strength. The only way to make it on this journey is on God’s strength. So He must be our true motivation!

Today, list out your motivations for getting fit. Then pray and ask God to help you find a solid, lasting rock of motivation in Jesus.

I Get To!

GetTo1 I Get To!

Hey loves! So what were you doing just 30 seconds ago before you started reading this? Were you checking emails? Were you cleaning? Were you working? Were you exercising? Were you eating lunch? Whatever you were doing, were you enjoying it??

So often I find myself mindlessly or reluctantly going about my daily tasks. I’ll often do things with the mentality, “Here we go again…” Getting dressed feels like a chore. Cooking is like pulling teeth. My routine seems dull and lifeless. But what if I changed my mindset from a “Have To” mindset to a “Get To” mindset??

What if instead of saying, “I have to get ready for work,” I said to myself, “I get to get ready for work!”

What if instead of saying, “I have to work-out now,” I said to myself, “I get to work-out now!”

What if instead of saying, “I have to choose healthy food for lunch,” I said to myself, “I get to choose healthy food for lunch!”

Do you see what that does?? It totally transforms my perspective! It shifts me from focusing on the negative in every situation to the blessing in every situation! It shifts me from a heart of entitlement to a heart of thanksgiving!

When I say, “I have to get ready for work,” I am totally taking for granted so many of the amazing blessings God has given me! “I get to get ready for work,” reminds me that God has provided me with an amazing job, that He’s never failed to provide for me, and that He’s given me gifts and abilities that I get to use to help others!

When I say, “I have to work-out now,” I’m only focused on the momentary physical discomfort of exercising. But when I say, “I get to work-out now,” I’m reminded that God has blessed me with a beautiful body with arms and legs that work! I’m reminded that my body is the temple of His Holy Spirit! I’m reminded that every time I exercise, He blesses me with increased energy!

So what were you doing right before reading this? Was it something you felt you had to do? Take a moment right now and transform that “Have To” into a “Get To!” Write down 5 things you always feel like you have to do. Then rewrite them into get to’s and discover the hidden blessings in all your daily tasks!

When you begin to work-out and eat healthily out of a “Get To” mindset, it’s a game-changer!!

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. -Colossians 3:17

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. -John 10:10

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. -James 1:17

Body, Mind, & Soul Work Together

body mind soul Body, Mind, & Soul Work Together

I’m super passionate about how the body, mind, & soul all work together, but sometimes I need to remind myself that as well.

As I’ve mentioned in my FB posts, I’ve had an off week. I am not beating myself up & I know I am human, but I am trying to show you something that will help you so hear me out.

Between feeding my body too many foods that aren’t good for me, trying to adapt to a new schedule, not getting enough sleep, & not getting in more than one devotion time a day I’ve been completely jacked up feeling! But, I was thinking & it all started with one thing being off.

I wasn’t feeding my body properly, so it affected me mentally. Because of that I felt more sluggish & not as motivated, so I didn’t care so much about doing extra devotion time or going to bed early (just being real). Even though I know those things are so good for me!

But just that one thing derailed me & had a domino effect. If one is off balance, the others will be as well. And I know when my spiritual life is off & I’m not putting The Lord first, everything else gets thrown off. The body, mind, & soul work together.

And honoring God with my body by eating healthy & properly IS part of my relationship with Him. No wonder the Holy Spirit has felt uncomfortable within my body because I haven’t been taking care of it like I normally would!

Again, I know I’m human & I know we all make mistakes. That’s what we learn from & that’s what I’m taking this last off week as; a lesson from God because He is my Father & is trying to show me I need to get myself together. The body, mind, & soul work together.

I just wanted to share this with y’all & be transparent about my struggles in hopes that it’ll help someone else. These were never things I understood before when I was 60 lbs heavier & not living for The Lord. But I’m thankful for my struggles because they make me stronger & most importantly it’s my testimony to share to help others. The body, mind, & soul work together.

If you ever have a prayer request or need help with something, don’t hesitate to email me or message me on Facebook!

Embrace the Struggle

embrace Embrace the Struggle

Do you feel like you’ve been in a winter season? Are you going through some tough times with your finances, your relationships, your health? You’re not alone. I want to tell you today why we have to learn to embrace the struggle. We must praise Jesus even when we don’t want to.

Ever since I quit my full-time job last year to follow what God told me He wanted me to do with my life (just my coaching business), it has been the most AWESOME year but also the HARDEST year of my life. When we are following God’s path, the enemy gets PISSED. He does not want to see us spread god’s word, he doesn’t want us to be happy, overcome struggles, or have breakthroughs. And the closer you get to God, the more you are going to struggle because of the enemy. So we HAVE to embrace the struggle!

Whenever you are struggling with something & it gets particularly intense, it’s a sign that your breakthrough is right around the corner. This happens to me all the time. I even experiences struggles right after a breakthrough; which is where I have been recently. My finances and my self image are my two areas of weakness where I struggle with putting my happiness or identity in those areas. I know that I have to put my identity in God & that’s all that matters. So I am learning to embrace the struggle.

Well, PRAISE God that I have had financial breakthroughs & finally a breakthrough with my weight this year. Then as soon as those breakthroughs happen – BAM – I have more struggles. I get discouraged when the scale doesn’t go down or my income doesn’t increase. And that is the ENEMY right there because he knows that I am about to break all the chains & have freedom. So he is taunting me & doing all he can to hold me back. That is why we have to embrace the struggle.

God has been telling me that I am about to have an EPIC breakthrough & I KNOW this is true because He promises me that & He has given me visions for my future. And it is the same for YOU my friend! God has a HUGE plan for your life & He promises you that it will happen. If you are struggling right now, your breakthrough is right around the corner. Don’t let the enemy hold you back – embrace the struggle!

Don’t forget to always love yourself!

Finding Your Identity In Christ

struggles identity Finding Your Identity In Christ

Last week I told ya’ll that I would be diving in to more details about why we should treat our body like a temple and how exactly to do that. So to break it all down, I want to start off by talking about finding your identity in Christ.

So often we have struggles that we are going through that end up turning in to our identity, they become a part of who we think we are. Or we may have a particular struggle because we are trying to fill a void where we aren’t allowing God in to our life in that specific area.We may be placing or identity in the fact that we are an emotional eater or overweight. So you must work on finding your identity in Christ so that you can realize the truth & what God thinks about you. THAT is who you are; not a binge eater, not a lazy person, etc.

This is the first step of the process of treating our body like a temple because we must overcome our identity in other things or struggles and place that identity in Christ. Once we do that, we can overcome any eating struggle & start treating our bodies like a temple & honoring God. Because we may feel weak or that we can’t do it, but with God anything is possible.

Do you know what God says about you? He says that through Christ you are more than a conqueror. And Christ is within you & the Holy Spirit resides inside of you. So THAT is why we must treat our body like a temple because we need to make it a comfortable place to reside. Otherwise we will be lacking & overcoming struggles on our own become impossible.

Finding your identity in Christ can be a process because so often we tell ourselves all that we aren’t or what our struggles are during that time. I encourage you to just dive in God’s word & see what He says about  us & meditate on that. Focus on the good things that are going on right now & what you are thankful for that God has blessed you with.

Don’t focus so much on your struggles that you get so obsessed & wrapped up in them that they become your identity. Believe me, I have been there all too recently by putting my identity in my money, my business, my weight, etc. It’s so freeing to let go! Give it over to God because finding your identity in Christ will completely change you & give you peace.

Finding your identity in Christ is the first step in honoring your body like a temple because the process is mental and spiritual. Our thoughts & feelings turn in to actions so we must feed ourselves with spiritual food that will in result cause us to make healthier lifestyle choices (eating, exercise, etc.)

Next week I will talk more about some action steps to honor God with your body by treating it like a temple.

“Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple & that God’s spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, & you together are that temple.” – 1 Corinthians 3:16,17

Until then, don’t forget to love yourself!

Are You Feeding God’s Temple with Trash?

bodtemple.jpg Are You Feeding Gods Temple with Trash?

Our discussion during my first egroup (Bible study) last night sparked me to blog about this today. Are you feeding God’s temple with trash?

Now I don’t want to offend you by that because my diet used to consist of alcohol, fried foods, & sugars. I definitely did NOT treat my body like a temple until a couple years ago. But 1 Corinthians 6:19 tells us that our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. So would you go up to God & put trash in His temple?

What you eat affects a lot more than just your body – it affects your mood, emotions, your spirit, & physical well being. It is so important to take care of our bodies to honor God – not to just look good or get a six pack. He put us on this earth to honor Him. So I really want you to think - are you feeding God’s temple with trash?

Here is a brief explanation of why we should treat our bodies like temples. I will blog more about this next week!

Until then, don’t forget to love yourself!

Commit Your Work to the Lord

commit Commit Your Work to the Lord

So, I just opened my coach online office today & literally said “HOLY CRAP” out loud when I saw my paycheck for this week. This is the biggest paycheck I have ever received. Funny thing? I worked way less than normal last week, like maybe 15 hours! I wanted to talk about what happens when you commit your work to the Lord.

I am NOT the type to brag at all. But, I am sharing this to just share when you have PASSION & FAITH & don’t let ANYTHING stop you or hold you back, God will bless you tremendously. Commit your work to the Lord & you will be able to live the best life you’ve ever imagined.

I am literally in tears as I write this because to be really transparent, there have been times over the last few months where I began to lose faith & let toxic thoughts overwhelm my mind. 2013 was the BEST year ever, but also the most emotional. Quitting my full-time job & moving to a brand new city & state was like way more emotional than I thought it would be haha.

God for us Commit Your Work to the Lord

As I said, there had been many times lately where I felt like my prayers weren’t being answered & things were kind of like at a stand still. But, in the last few weeks I have adjusted my attitude, done TONS of devotion time & personal development & praying. And just stood FIRM on God’s word. KNOWING that He will ALWAYS fulfill His promise in HIS time. Not mine.

Sometimes it’s hard to come to grips with that since we are human & we constantly battle with our flesh vs. the spirit. But, when you have that STRONG FAITH, that undying PASSION for what you do, & do NOT EVER let the enemy win – ALL your dreams will come true! Commit your work to the Lord & do not ever give up!

Please RT or share with anyone this may help or inspire!

As always, don’t forget to love yourself!
