Don’t Be Ashamed of Your Story

dontbeashamed Dont Be Ashamed of Your Story

Hey ya’ll! Hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day weekend! I got in lots of time with friends, some rest, & had an amazing time volunteering at church.

Today I really felt like I should talk about your story & most importantly: don’t be ashamed of your story. A conversation over coffee with a dear friend yesterday made me think how important it was to share this with ya’ll.

First of all, I want to tell you to not be ashamed of what others think or say about you! The Lord sees who you are inside & sees your intentions. No one else but Him knows that. People like to judge based on outward appearance or what they think they know. And a lot of the time it is because of JEALOUSY. It has nothing at all to do with you beautiful one!

I say this from firsthand experience on many occasions. I cannot tell you how many times I have been judged by others for the business I have, the type of clothes I wear, & I could keep on going. But I know now that it has nothing to do with me & everything to do with them. The best I can do is just pray for them. Don’t be ashamed of your story! God is going to use it in a way to minister to & help so many people.

Secondly, don’t be ashamed of the struggles you are going through. I try to be very open with ya’ll about my struggles. We all have them! My biggest struggle is food & my body image & I feel crazy to say that because I mentor others with their fitness & nutrition. But, food has been a stronghold in my life. That’s why I used to weigh 60 more lbs than I do now! And I still struggle with it.

It’s not that I make unhealthy choices very often. I have the tendency to obsess & overanalyze about every piece of food that goes in to my mouth. I have turned in to an obsessive calorie counter. I also look in the mirror & don’t like what I see a lot of days. I feel like I look fat & notice all of the things wrong with me. I KNOW that is not the right mindset to have & I am working on overcoming it. I am in a much better place than I was before. But it is a daily struggle for me!

I also struggle with not valuing myself or my worth. Putting my identity in how successful I am or how thin I feel. Those are worldly things that don’t even matter & I know that, but it’s something I am working on overcoming. I am trying to remind myself daily to see myself how God sees me & not how I feel or am thinking that day.

Lastly a big struggle of mine is negative thinking. I know God can make amazing things happen & He can do anything! But, the enemy still tries to attack my mind that I am doing things wrong or I am not good enough to reach certain goals. I am working on replacing those negative thoughts with God’s Word, but again it’s a daily process.

So I say all this to say, don’t be ashamed of your story! Your story is going to help encourage so many people. I share all of my struggles with you today because I want you to know you are not alone. And you CAN get through it!

If you ever need help or advice in any of these areas, don’t ever hesitate to contact me via email. I am always glad to help <3

Motivation Monday!

 Motivation Monday!

Happy Memorial Day!!!!!!  It’s Motivation Monday!

What is your motivation for getting healthy? My motivations span a wide range, from silly little things to some pretty big stuff. Here’s a list, in no particular order, of some of my motivations to exercise and eat healthily:

  • To look super cute in my summer clothes
  • To take preventative action against the diabetes and heart disease that’s rampant in my family
  • To have more energy and focus
  • To get rid of brain fog
  • To get toned abs, arms, and legs
  • To have healthy lifestyle habits I can pass on to my children
  • To have increased confidence and comfort in the body God’s given me
  • To learn self-discipline
  • To have improved moods and attitudes
  • To wear be able to wear those pants again that are a bit too tight
  • To have victory over self-image issues I’ve had my whole life
  • To be stronger and have more physical endurance

All of these are really good motivations, and good reasons to get fit. But honestly, there are some days where absolutely none of them cut it. Some days, the present reality of delicious looking ice cream is a whole lot more appealing than the future possibility of getting diabetes. Some days, the cupcake seems worth the brain fog. Some days, watching Netflix instead of doing my work-out is way more motivational to me than looking good this summer.

So how do we motivate ourselves when all our best motivations fall short?

I’m starting to learn that on days like that, my motivation doesn’t work if I’m doing it for myself. You see, I don’t really want to do what’s best for myself a lot of the time. Maybe this is because I have no real understanding of how truly valuable I am.

The only motivation that works for me on days like that is to do it for God. When we are tempted to compromise our healthy eating or our exercise, it’s usually because deep down we don’t feel valuable enough to be worth the effort. So when that happens, I have to look to God. Because He’s infinitely valuable, and He’s worth the effort. He deserves my self-discipline, even if I don’t feel like I’m worth it.

When I switch my motivation from trying to do something for myself to doing something to honor God, it frees me from a huge weight. It makes me realize that He cares about my health and fitness infinitely more than I do. It also lifts my perspective, helping me see myself the way God sees me. Instead of feeling like I’m not really worth all this work and discipline and discomfort, I remember that I have a divine destiny. God made me in His image and put me on this earth to do something for His glory that only I can do. He has given me skills, gifts, and resources that are uniquely mine, and He desires to do something greater than I can imagine in and through me.

I love this! When our motivation becomes honoring God, He steps in and helps us honor ourselves. He reminds us that He loves us and that we are precious and valuable to Him. It also takes the pressure off when I realize that this fitness journey isn’t about me as much as I think it is. It’s really about Jesus. It’s about Jesus making me more like Himself to shine His light to the world.

Now I’m not saying it’s bad to have those motivations I listed at the beginning. Those are all great things. But they will all fail eventually if they’re my only motivations because they’re all based around me and my own strength. The only way to make it on this journey is on God’s strength. So He must be our true motivation!

Today, list out your motivations for getting fit. Then pray and ask God to help you find a solid, lasting rock of motivation in Jesus.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” -1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I got back late last night & looked at the calendar today & realized tomorrow is already New Year’s Eve! Time has flown this year!! I wrote my goals out for 2014 a few weeks ago, but I wanted to talk about New Years Resolutions today. So many of us make New Years Resolutions & then end up giving up on them by March. I want to help make 2014 YOUR year & help you achieve everything you’ve ever dreamed of!

The 10 most popular New Years Resolutions are:

  5. Get a Better Job
  6. Save Money/Manage Debt

I am so blessed to say that these are all things that I have been able to do through God and becoming a coach last year! My ENTIRE life has transformed & changed. If any of these are your New Years Resolutions, let me encourage you for a minute.

Fast forward to today and I have now lost 60 lbs, help others for a living & LOVE it so much I would do it for free, have the BEST job I’ve ever had making the most money I’ve ever made, am paying off my debt, getting fit, living healthy, stress free, & EARNING free trips! Praise God!!

Your Body and Your Image: Seeing Yourself Healthy

healthy body image Your Body and Your Image: Seeing Yourself Healthy

The way you see yourself & your thoughts are literally what creates your life & happiness. I have personally struggled with an unhealthy body image for most of my life. I was overweight for half my life & a few years ago finally lost 60 lbs. Since then I’ve kept it off (gained a few in muscle though), but I continue to view myself as the girl I used to be when I looked in the mirror. Then God & the Pastor at my church started working on me about this topic. There is a way to love yourself & I like to call it your body and your image: seeing yourself healthy.

It’s all about the thoughts that you let stay in your head – you have to control that ACESSS – those negative thoughts CAN be kicked to the curb! There are going to be so many negative thoughts that pass through your mind each day, but you MUST overcome them with positive thinking & the Word of God. Remember how God views you & just how beautiful & fearless He made you. You DESERVE to be happy! Surround yourself with positivity so that those negative thoughts don’t stand a chance. It’s your body and your image: seeing yourself healthy.

Here are some more tips that I found, I love this list!!! It’s your body and your image: seeing yourself healthy.

seeing yourself healthy Your Body and Your Image: Seeing Yourself Healthy

I want to encourage you to enjoy the process & be thankful for what you do have! My body has changed A LOT since starting Insanity almost 2 months ago! I’m not exactly where I want to be because I want to continue getting more toned & stronger, but I’m so thankful for how far I’ve come! I’m now able to get through almost all the workouts without stopping, I’ve lost several inches & a few pounds, I have a little mini two pack that comes & goes, my cellulite is basically go on, & my arms are more toned. So I’m sharing that with you to say pick out the GOOD – go write down your list & be thankful for that today! Stop complaining about the rest & thank God for what you do have right now! It’s your body and your image: seeing yourself healthy.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Freedom

where the spirit of the lord is there is freedom Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Freedom

Happy Monday ! I actually got inspired to write this post while listening to the song “Freedom Reigns” by Jesus Culture. I began to really think about the phrase & about the sermon at church from over the weekend. I know a lot of you know my story, but I just wanted to share the POWER of how the Lord can truly give you freedom in your life. I’ve been going through many trials the past few months, but would you have known that about me if I didn’t tell you? Because of the Lord I am able to stay joyful through it all. Let me tell you how the Lord has changed my life because where the spirit of the lord is there is freedom.

Here is just a list of all the things I was struggling with only a few years ago:

  • I was overweight. I was an emotional eater. I ate horrible foods.
  • I drank a lot of alcohol. I was drunk every night.
  • I smoked cigarettes. A pack a day if I had a day not drinking (which was unlikely). Days that I drank I probably smoked two packs.
  • My happiness depended on my boyfriend. Without him around I was miserable.
  • I had no self confidence. I had poor self body image. I didn’t believe in myself. I spoke negatively to myself daily. I didn’t believe my dreams would ever come true or were possible.
  • I was shy. I was afraid to talk to people I didn’t know. I was afraid to share about myself when I did meet people.
  • I was at a job that was draining me emotionally. I wasn’t treated fairly.
  • I didn’t have many meaningful relationships or friendships. I would just hang out with the people who would drink with me.
  • I was far away from God. I had no idea what having a relationship with Him was about.

Now to counter all of these things, let me tell you how my life looks today:

  • I lost 60 lbs. Yes, I’ve gained a few because of muscle. But, my eating is under control. I eat delicious nutritious foods that give me energy & help me stay healthy.
  • I rarely drink alcohol. It just ruins my goals & progress.
  • I quit smoking. It disgusts me now to be quite honest.
  • I’ve been single for  two years & couldn’t be happier. I found myself again, have been growing myself, & my relationship with God.
  • I am way more self confident. My body image is improving. (It’s a process for me.) I believe in myself & KNOW that all my dreams will come true & that they are possible. Because anything is possible through Christ.
  • I LOVE being social & being around people. I love making new friends. I’m an open book! Anything I can share, I will, in hopes it’ll help others.
  • I now get to do what I LOVE & am passionate about. I would do it for free. My business is filled with a bunch of amazing people & I am so blessed.
  • I’ve become friends with so many great people & formed so many meaningful relationships. People that are like minded that also dream big & love God.
  • I found God again & Jesus is my #1 homie! I love my devotion time, being in the word, my church, my life group, & doing anything I can to help further His kingdom.

freedom Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Freedom

Do you see now that where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom? I would have not been able to do any of these things without God. Once I found Him again, He helped morph me in to the person I am today. I used to worry so much about every little detail. I used to want to control every situation. It’s still hard for me to not have control (it’s my personality), but I know that everything happens in His time (even if I don’t like it) & that He has a plan. There is no need for me to worry because I know God is by my side. I feel like I have broken the chains of bondage. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.

How to Renew Your Life

how to renew body mind soul How to Renew Your Life

Renewal is something that we typically think of around New Year’s or maybe even Spring, when Summer is quickly approaching. For so many years, I could care less about taking care of my health, body, mind, or soul. I was far away from God, overweight, depressed, & in a dark place. What I’ve learned is that it all starts with your MIND. Once you overcome your mind, you can overcome anything. The body, mind, & soul all work together. I know that can seem very difficult, believe me. I still struggle with it myself sometimes, even after losing 60 lbs & maintaining that the past 4 years. But, I want to show you that you CAN & just how to renew your  life.

When I began my weight loss journey, I had a lot of trouble getting my mind right about it. I tried so many things & continued failing. Then one day I finally figured out what my WHY was – what  made me want to get healthy – & that pushed me along. It started in the mind. I learned how to better control my mind. This was just the beginning of my journey & I’ve figured out so much since then about how they all connect, so I want to share it with all of you. I want to show you how to renew your life.

I’m sure by now you’ve heard me talking about my Healthy for the Holidays group that starts next Monday. I’m very excited about helping people take control of their mind & their life. I  lived so much of my life in fear & depression. Now that I’ve been released from that, I want to help you all break those chains of bondage that we are not meant to live in. God has a bigger plan for your life, you don’t have to feel this way any more.

This group will last from October-March so that I can help you get through the holidays without gaining any weight, but still enjoying yourself & lots of yummy foods. But, you will not just be learning about health & fitness. I am going to help you gain a new perspective on life, have a fresh start, & show you how to renew your life.

9 Ways to Flatten Your Belly this Week

flatten your belly 9 Ways to Flatten Your Belly this Week

Who doesn’t want to beat their belly boat & flatten their belly? I know my tummy has always been struggle area, even after losing 60 lbs. Lately I’ve learned a lot about food & have been figuring out what makes me bloated & what doesn’t & how to flatten my belly. So, I want to share my tips with you of 9 ways to flatten your belly this week.

  1. Season your food differently. Taking in too much salt can cause your body to retain water. Make sure you’re using salt-free seasonings like Mrs. Dash or fresh herbs. Also make sure to ditch anything processed or frozen that’s microwaveable because they pack on the sodium as well.
  2. Cut back on carbs. Cutting back on carbs like bagels & pasta can cause your body to eliminate excess stored fluids. Have eggs for breakfast, try open-faced sandwiches, & have snacks like turkey slices, seeds, & nuts.
  3. Switch your starch. Instead of potatoes, corn, or wheat sub out for brown rice. This is the only starch that doesn’t cause gas.
  4. Eliminate milk. You may be lactose intolerant if you feel gassy or bloated after having dairy. Try alternatives like almond milk instead.
  5. Make fruit swaps. Try berries, grapes, & citrus instead of honeydew, apples, or pears. They are easier to digest & have less fructose.
  6. Hold the hot sauce. Spicy foods can release stomach acid & cause irritation.
  7. Ditch diet foods. Anything that is low calorie or low fat contain sugar alcohols (xylitol or malitol) can cause stomach pains.
  8.  Eliminate alcohol. Alcohol causes dehydration, which can cause your body to hang on to more water.
  9. Get active. Do something active daily. This will help stimulate your intestinal muscles. Get out there for a walk, a bike ride, or some jump rope, whatever you enjoy.

I really hope these tips help y’all out because I know belly bloating is no fun. If you apply these tips, these are definitely 9 ways to flatten you belly this week!
